Article on Detachment in February’s issue of Nexus Magazine which is published for the ex-pat community. Many thanks to Sheila Hare for asking me to contribute. www.expatnetwork.com
A big thank you to Maire Garvey from Castlebar Community Radio, County Mayo for her support and kindness when she interviewed me live (my first ever) on Wednesday 10th July. Hopefully, my dry mouth wasn’t too obvious. I never got to hear myself but as we agreed, it was such a hot day that most people were probably at the beach anyway!
My first radio interview was with Jonathan Morrell from 720 ABC Perth for his show Dawn Patrol which goes out from 3am! It was pre-recorded on Thursday 27th June 2013. I think it was broadcast on Monday 1st July but I never got to hear it, probably a good thing, but I want to thank Jonathan for his help, kindness and reassurance to a first-timer!

Brian O’Connell is a well-known journalist and broadcaster. His own book ‘Wasted’ deals with alcoholic drinking from the drinker’s point of view.
Unfortunately, this article was published without any input from me & shows the only interest is to sell newspapers by the sensationalist use of ‘alcoholic’ and ‘blind’. Martha de Lacey misquoted me and misinterpreted visual impairment. Still they say there’s no such thing as bad publicity – however, a great shame as it did the book no favours and drew numerous inane and inaccurate comments among a few considerate ones. C’est la vie!
Got quite a shock on seeing the actual newspaper with my ‘ugly mug’ festooning the whole front cover of Health Section!

I am indebted to Sam Clench for this article and there are some interesting comments on it.
